Relatively unknown during the 20th century, the prehistory of the settlements between the Siberian Altai and the China Sea is today the subject of intense, multidisciplinary and international archaeological research. Developments in new methods of investigation, such as ancient DNA and proteomics, have contributed to this general enthusiasm, sometimes leading to spectacular discoveries.
The aim of this presentation is to take stock of current research into the Paleolithic settlement of Central and East Asia, to discuss the results and implications for our general knowledge of prehistory, and to address future prospects for research in the region.
