Enjoy the Gourmet celebration days Journées du goût et de la gastronomie

When gourmet taste calls, Sarlat answers! What better way to celebrate the gourmet food of the Périgord than with local pasture-fed lamb and Sarlat-style potatoes?

Sarlat celebrates gourmet taste

in a deserving way!

This event is held on the fourth weekend in September each year on Place de la Grande Rigaudie at the entrance to the medieval town. It has become a not-to-be-missed gathering for the locals, and lamb is given pride of place !

A 100% gourmet event in a convivial atmosphere

On the Saturday evening, conviviality is key on Place de la Grande Rigaudie of Sarlat! Don’t forget your basket so that you may stock up at the local farmers’ market, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The open-air meal that is held under the tents is the perfect place to enjoy grilled lamb with delicious Sarlat-style potatoes. If you have a sweet tooth, you’ll appreciate the famous Périgord walnut cake.

Early on the Sunday morning, follow the locals to witness the popular seasonal migration ramble. From one of the villages in the surroundings, you’ll follow a herd of 200 sheep to Sarlat. Don’t miss the opportunity! Don’t worry about walking back, since shuttles are available to transport you.

When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by local farm stands, workshops and various demonstrations… And a taste of the traditional Tourin tomato soup offers a special flavour that celebrates the Périgord.

Kids will adore participating in a cheesemaking workshop while you learn to prepare other dishes.
