Truffle festival

Every year, mid-January During this weekend-long event created by the Groupement des Producteurs de Truffes du Périgord Noir and the city of Sarlat, you may participate in various activities on the theme of this emblematic mushroom. A number of workshops are open to the general public to reveal all the subtleties of the truffle, such as workshops on truffle identification and aroma or informed truffle purchasing. A large truffle market will be held over the weekend, featuring an abundance of fresh truffles as well as derived products and related items (such as books and live truffle oaks). Truffle-hunting demonstrations with trained dogs will take place twice a day in the trufflery to be set up on Place du Peyrou (the cathedral square).
